How to create predefined files, folders and permissions on a RAM disk
Occasionally you may need to have a certain structure of files and folders, or to set custom access permissions on a RAM disk. This is easy to achieve by using an image-based RAM disk with its contents read from a file:
- Create an image of an appropriate size (Image – Create Image).
- Mount the image (Image – Mount Image), copy the files/folders to it and set the permissions as required.
- Dismount the image (Image – Unmount Image).
- Create a new RAM disk based on the created image file. Leave the Save Contents to Image option unticked.
The initial folder structure and permissions will be read from the image file. Any changes made to the RAM disk after that will be discarded when you unmount the disk or restart the system.
